RSD BF Wish List: Dave Matthews Band - Recently EP 10" Vinyl. 23 June 2014.

First, a little history. Remember Two Things, which we just saw released on vinyl for the first time, was released on November 9th, 1993. This album was a mix of live and studio work. The Recently EP came on May 17th, 1994. The original “promo cover” of Recently, now referred to as “Pumpkin Recently” featured a man holding a pumpkin and a partially exposed breast. The later release was different and didn’t include the pumpkin or the breast. A few months later, DMB’s first studio album, Under The Table And Dreaming, was released on September 27th, 1994.

With UTTAD coming on vinyl, presumably by the end of the year for the 20th Anniversary, that begs for Recently to see a release. It could be in a bundle with UTTAD, but I think the best option is to see it released on Record Store Day/Black Friday. I’m hoping management recognizes this and makes this happen.  And I think the pumpkin cover would be a nice throwback, as well.  I enjoy the Live Trax series as much as anyone, but I think this year would be a great year to take advantage of an opportunity to see Recently released on vinyl.

If you'd like to see this happen, help get the word out!

New Bowie 180 Gram Greatest Hits - Coming Soon! 20 June 2014.

This image may not look like much, but what it represents is something pretty exciting. Today, All Welcome Records announced on their Instagram account, " We're working on test pressings for a special David Bowie greatest hits release today. Available on 180 gram vinyl, street date is around the corner."  I was just speaking with some folks about this recently and I couldn't be more excited.  It's about time we got a new pressing of some Bowie material, and the fact that it's a greatest hits compilation makes it that much better.  The release is being handled via Warner Music Group / Rhino.

Office Space - Vinyl. 14 June 2014.

I was speaking with someone about this today, and I was surprised to find out that a good friend, who is a fellow vinyl enthusiast, wasn't aware this was even pressed. If you're not familiar, Office Space is a Mike Judge film that came a few years before "The Office", and is one of my personal favorite comedy films of all time. The soundtrack is fantastic. If you haven't picked it up, or weren't aware - TurnTableLab has this in stock on red wax, and is a must have for any collector or enthusiast.

Breaking Bad Filming Locations. 12 June 2014.

I recently passed through Albuquerque on my way to California, and I thought it would be fun to visit as many Breaking Bad locations as I could find. I went to all the ones I thought were must see attractions, or easy to find. Thanks to this blog, which has pretty much every spot the show was ever filmed, even the minor ones.
First of all, if you're going to take the tour in style and drive around and look at all these places - do yourself a favor and head over to The Candy Lady in Old Town at 424 San Felipe NW. She made the "Blue Crystal" props they used as "meth" on the show. You can buy it for a dollar a bag, and it's pretty tasty, and makes a great souvenir.

This is the bumpiest road I've ever been down and had to go about 10mph to be safe)

GPS Coordinates: 34°48'00.5"N 106°51'02.2"W (These are the coordinates to the street address, not to the house itself.  From these coordinates you can see the house from the street and access it if you want from there)

UPDATE:  In July, 2014, a month after I did this trip and visited this location, Google Street View actually drove down this street. So now you can see it from the road, though it isn't the best of quality.  Click the Google Maps Link above and hit Street View and you can see it.

Breaking Bad Soundtrack Volume 2 - Picture Disc Vinyl (Hot Topic Exclusive) & Blue Sky Pressing of Volume 1. 3 June 2014.

Hot Topic launched their online order page for Breaking Bad Volume 2 Vinyl Soundtrack (Picture Discs) today. This pressing is limited to 2,400 pressings. Last time, it was in store only, but this time you can buy it online, so get on it if you don't want to miss out.

As before, there will be a pressing or two from SpaceLab9 to follow this one, so if you're not a fan of picture discs, don't worry, you'll be able to get alternate pressings of this later.

Also, a Blue Meth version is coming July 29th (of Volume 1, not Volume 2) and is limited to 1,000 copies. This will be on sale at Hot Topic as well, not sure yet if it's online or in store, more details to come shortly. SpaceLab9 says, on that same website, " The reality is that we took note of the overwhelming public demand for "blue meth vinyl" and presented that to the owners of the Breaking Bad license. Only at that juncture were we granted clearance to do so when previously we did not have the freedom to do so. All of your collective feedback was certainly used in making a "blue meth vinyl" edition a reality. Folks, it is important to remember when you are handling a licensed release and especially one that is a big as Breaking Bad is that every single aspect-artwork,what images from the property are used and how they are used, placements of logos, where the record is pressed, vinyl colors, every bit of text in the record and even marketing info has to be approved be the license owner, so it is not as simple as "just do this or that". And I am not sure if I expressed it properly above-but what I think is very cool is that we were able to present the overwhelming public demand for the meth blue color vinyl to the powers that be and bottom line, late or not-they listened. So the community and fans played an enormous role in making the blue meth variant a reality which as a fan myself I think is very, very cool that you guys were able to speak so loudly and have your voices heard. Moving forward hopefully we can situate things in a manner where we try to make a very concerned effort to implement what fans want into future releases."
