Jurassic Park Soundtrack - Officially Announced! 29 April 2014.

We've been talking about this for weeks, but now it's official, the Jurassic Park vinyl from Mondo is happening. Both versions, limited to 500 pieces each, will go on sale June 11th, at $35 each. JC Richard and Dan McCarthy handled the artwork for these releases. You can view more photos of this release below.

The Press Release from Mondo says, "Mondo is excited to announce the release of John Williams’ iconic Original Motion Picture Soundtrack for Jurassic Park, remastered for vinyl with gorgeous artwork for two packaging variations from artist JC Richard and a limited edition vinyl from artist Dan McCarthy (1,000 copies). The vinyl releases will be for sale only at MondoTees.com on June 11, 2014. Jurassic Park occupies a rare place in the hearts of film fans worldwide. It’s one of the few seminal films that almost everyone can recall seeing in the theater for the first time in perfect detail. It’s a movie that fires on all cylinders – from the amazing sense of adventure, a realistic world of tomorrow, awe-inspiring special effects and of course one of the greatest scores that has ever been created. “There are few films where the experience of watching the film is matched only by experience of listening to it, and Jurassic Park is one of those rare films,” said Mondo Creative Director Justin Ishmael.

Jurassic Park Vinyl - Coming Soon! 27 April 2014.

It looks like the rumored Jurassic Park LP from Mondo is finally going to happen!
First, on Instagram, Justin Ishmael from Mondo posted this photo.  Clearly an amber colored variant of the Jurassic Park LP with the mosquito "frozen" in the center.
The quote said "Coming Soon".
Today, Films On Wax tweeted this photo with the quote, "Dino supervisor @PhilTippett shows off @MondoNews LP of John Williams' "Jurassic Park" - thanks to @paulnography." Phil Tippett is a visual effects artist, known his work on Jurassic Park as well as for Star Wars, Starship Troopers and Robocop.

I'm getting excited already.  I would expect an announcement any day.

Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds - Live in New Orleans - Next Live Release? 26 April 2014.

Early this year, Dave and Tim performed two great nights of music at the Saenger Theater in New Orleans. Granted, Night 1 wasn't quite as good as Night 2, and the crowds were utterly horrible, but it was a great experience. With all the cameras around the venue, word quickly began circulating and the rumor mill began churning that we would see a live release (either Live Trax or "in store") of this show.
A few months back, I found this Dave & Tim shirt image hidden in some Warehouse code. This was an item not available at the show and came right after the D&T show. Granted, this could mean anything, but it was rather suspect.
Today, I found this Dave and Tim messenger bag hidden in some code.  This bag was the "VIP Gift" at the show.  It being randomly added to the WH store today in hidden code makes it seem like this will be part of a combo/bundle if/when this sees an official release.  Will it happen? That remains to be seen. But signs are beginning to point to yes.  I certainly hope so, Night 2 was a great show, and would make a great release, but I certainly wouldn't turn down both nights being released! In case you missed either show, here's all my videos from both nights. And below is the full show of Night 2 from Copperpot's YouTube.

What's Noel Gallagher up to nowadays? 25 April 2014.

Before I dive into a Noel Gallagher update, the past few days have been rather interesting for Oasis fans.
A series of tweets from Liam Gallagher set the internet a-stormin' yesterday which basically amounted to nothing. Liam tweeted O-A-S-I-S and then a final tweet of "OASIS". These posts were retweeted tens of thousands of times, and eventually bookies Ladbrokes and Paddy Power suspended betting on whether or not the band would headline Glastonbury.

Andy Goldstein of talkSPORT followed up with a dream-crushing respond, saying, "I just text Noel asking about the chance of reforming.  His reply, "There's more chance of me and my ex-wife getting back together." Noel said in November, "There is no band. So, no, I won’t be getting involved, anyway. If there is a reunion, I won’t be in it.” Oasis split in 2009 after a backstage argument between the brothers with Noel saying, “I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.” Liam has remained open to the idea of a reunion, however, saying Oasis has "unfinished business" and stating that he would be down for them to "bury the hatchet for a quick lap of honor".  Sadly, that has yet to become a reality.

So what has Noel been up to since High Flying Birds?  Apparently working on his solo album. Mark Coyle, who co produced Definitely, Maybe, thinks it's going to be nothing short of epic. "On the day it comes out, Virgin Trains won’t be able to cope with all the people trying to flee the chaos." In February, Noel began going through about 50 songs to narrow down to a select few for his solo album. Coyle goes on to say, "Noel's new album is fucking great. It reminds me in some respects of the spirit of 'Definitely Maybe', because it’s so obviously exciting. That boy is from a different planet, and even the fans won’t believe how utterly amazing [the album] is. It’s pouring out of him [right now]."  Last year, Noel mentioned that he wanted to record the album in New York.

As if that wasn't exciting enough, Damon Albarn, of Blur fame, recently said in regards to making an album with Noel, "We’re talking. It’s not anything to get excited about yet. I mean, he’s doing his thing. He’s finishing a new record. I’ve got my record coming out, but the principle of us making music together is something, you know. It would be fair to say, we have discussed it at least once."

Despite rumors of animosity between the two in the past, that was buried in 2013 when the two performed Blur's "Tender" for the  Teenage Cancer Trust gig.  The thought of these two coming together for an album has me beyond pumped.  With their combined experience, they could produce something magical.

Some new vinyl preorders. 24 April 2014.

SoundStageDirect.com, one of my favorite shops for ordering vinyl online, has some new pre-orders up. The first one I wanted to talk about is Remember Two Things, the 1993 debut album from Dave Matthews Band. I did a full preview article on this earlier, so check that link for more info, but the main point I wanted to make is that SSD ships their vinyl really well. If you don't want to order from the Warehouse due to shoddy packaging (hey, it's happened in the past to many of us), or don't want to mess with a retailer you haven't heard of, check out SSD. They ship very well.

Garden State is probably one of the best soundtracks out there. Featuring music from Coldplay, The Shins, Simon & Garfunkel, Iron and Wine and more, it is a very sold album. This is up for pre-order now, as well.

Garden State Soundtrack Tracklisting:

LP 1

The Deluxe Version of Neil Young's A Letter Home is up for pre-order as well at SoundStageDirect.  I did a preview article about it a little while back, so check that out for more info. It's also back up at ThirdManStore.com for 20$ if you want to pick up just the album.

A Letter Home Tracklisting:

Remember Two Things - Dave Matthews Band - Vinyl Coming Soon! 24 April 2014.

Updated:  7 May 2014.  I've had to sit on this for a while, but the cat is out of the bag and it's up for pre-order, so we can go ahead and talk about it.  Dave Matthews Band's 1993 debut album on Bama Rags is getting a vinyl release.  This album will be released on a double LP and contains the same track list as the CD. The gatefold jacket is foil numbered and includes a new eight-page booklet with full lyrics and rare and previously unpublished photos of the band. The download card includes the full album plus two previously unreleased bonus tracks: early studio versions of “Pay For What You Get” and “Typical Situation,” newly mastered by original album engineer David Glasser."

Also, the CD version is getting a remaster release. More Cake Box Sets Coming Soon! 22 April 2014.

If you're like me, you're pretty bummed out with the amount of Record Store Day items that are flipped on eBay. It's ridiculous, honestly. In some cases, it keeps these special items out of the hands of fans, unless you want to pay the ridiculously high prices that these flippers on eBay sell their items for. The Cake Box Set, is one such example. Going for several hundred dollars over face value on eBay, this is one that was kept out of the hands of fans by these disgusting people. Cake has made a stand, however, and said that more will be coming soon.

First, you need to sign up for the Cake Mailing List to get more info about when these will be made available. They’re saying these aren’t “re-pressed”, they’re “original editions” that will be made available shortly. These are going to be made available via mail order, so you’ll be able to buy them online instead of in your local store. Though I’m sure if they do a second pressing later on down the road you can get these in your local store, but that remains to be seen.  The image to the left shows the statements Cake made via their Facebook page.  So do not lose hope, musicians and bands actually notice what's happening, and many of them make reasonable efforts to make sure fans can get ahold of their merchandise and items.

I spoke with a representative from Cake today who confirmed this, "There is no second pressing. We are making an additional quantity of the original run of box sets available THIS WEEK, but only to those on the band’s mailing list: $99 each plus $35 for domestic shipping. This is probably going to go down on Thursday."

Dave Matthews Band - Melbourne, Australia - 17 April 2014.

DMB moves it on down the line to Melbourne, Australia to play the Sidney Myer Music Bowl. This show had some highlights, including DDTW, WTWE, Rooftop, BBN, Graves, WWYS, SMTS>ATSB>Too Much, and Digging A Ditch, but ended with one of the worst 5 song runs in recent memory. You & Me, Jimi Thing, Shake Me Like A Monkey and an encore of Spaceman into Cornbread. I'm sure the fans in Australia are having the time of their life at these shows, but that closing run was horrendous. Thank goodness Ants popped in to save the day.

Dave Matthews Band - Live Trax 29 - Review. 15 April 2014.

Great mix on this release for sure. Dave’s vocals a little high at some points, but other than that the levels are on point.

Dancing Nancies>Warehouse is a great way to open a show. The crowd’s energy was fantastic. Both songs are solid and Boyd isn’t skreeing it up, he’s actually playing pretty well.

Idea of You sounds beautiful, the horns are great, and Tim is taking it easy, this song would make such a great single.

Glad to have a release of BBN, Jeff rips the solo, and glad to finally be able to hear Boyd in the mix.

Save Me sounds much better from it’s last release, the band has definitely improved on playing this in the full band environment. Boyd even sounds good (starting at the 2:00 mark) on it.

Captain is tied with Pig for my favorite DMB song and I’m glad a 2013 Captain got a release. Dave seems to strain a little in the chorus, but overall not bad instrumentally.

Seven, meh.

Love the break in Gaucho with Rashawn playing, then Carter comes in, then Dave, and Tim in the background then Jeff, really like what the band is doing with this song.

Rooftop flat out rocks, glad to have a release of this one with the new 2013 break.

Crush sounds great. It’s one of few songs that I’ll actually say I like the way they play it now vs the way they used to play it, the outdo has become my favorite part of Crush, it’s such a great jam. Live Trax 27 had a 2010 version of it, so I’m stoked to have a newer version that that.

I was lucky enough to get Say Goodbye in Austin last year. When Carter started playing I was like “Please God, don’t be Spaceman”. I’m sure this crowd was the same way. I like songs like this that show the more mellow side of Jeff Coffin, his work in the intro is fantastic.

BEF>Bartender is one of the greatest things this band does, period. At the 7:30 minute when things slow down, Boyd sounds great. Jeff’s solo is beautiful, and Tim’s playing in the outro is great, it’s awesome whenever he plays mellow, he’s such a talented guitarist, it’s nice when he remembers he doesn’t have to melt faces. The “If I Only Had A Brain” going into Tim jamming is awesome, probably my favorite part of this version.

I’m “meh” on Kill The Preacher, I wish it had stuck with the lyrics from the Mansfield Jam, this song seems like one that has a hard time figuring out what it’s about.

The tempo on Why I Am is great, it’s not in your face loud or fast as it has been in past releases, it’s nice they slowed that down.

Recently is fantastic. Tim isn’t going too hard on it, the horns sound great, and so does Boyd. At 6:45, the girl singing “and they just ignore”  Wow, horrible.

I was hoping a 2013 Oh would see a release, I think that song fit so well in the E1 spot in the 2013 Summer Tour.

SMTS>ATSB>Ants is just awesome. That 14 minute run is great, love the Too Much (fake)>Ants.

Live Trax 4 - Color Confirmed. 15 April 2014.

This photo confirms that the Dave Matthews Band Live Trax 4 release for Record Store Day 2014  will be pressed onto orange vinyl, as was expected. I initially thought tan/brown, but when the cover photo came out and the tag shifted from tan to orange, it was pretty easy to figure out that they would shift the color to orange.

Dave Matthews Band - Sydney, Australia - 15 April 2014.

DMB delivered a much better setlist today in Sydney. Don’t Drink The Water, Proudest Monkey - Satellite, So Right, Dancing Nancies, Drive In Drive Out, Crash Into Me, Ants Marching, PNP - Rapunzel and more were delivered to an enthusiastic crowd at the Qantas Credit Union Arena.  Tonight's show definitely wasn't a "festival set" like the last one!

Dave Matthews Band - West Coast Blues n' Roots - 13 April 2014.

The first full band show has come and went, and as expected, a pretty average "festival" set.  But I am glad to see the band playing again, and looking forward to 2014!

CCR - Chronicle Limited Vinyl Reissue! 9 April 2014.

The Newbury folks are at it again with another vinyl exclusive! This time it's CCR's Chronicle up for pre-order. Newbury says,
"Pre-order the double LP Chronicle by Creedence Clearwater Revival on "Camouflage" Vinyl. This exclusive pressing from Newbury Comics and Fantasy Records is limited to only 1000 pieces."  The release date is set for April 15th, 2014.

This album has a hell of a tracklisting, so if you're a CCR hardcore, or a casual listener, this is definitely one to scoop up!
